Popeyes announced on the 17th that it sold a total of 50,000 units of its "Chicken Sandwich," first introduced on December 16 last year, within just one month.
Popeyes' chicken is marinated for 12 hours with Louisiana-style Cajun seasoning, then coated in a buttermilk batter developed in-house and fried, resulting in a spicy flavor and juicy tenderness. They offer a total of five types of chicken menu items, including Signature Chicken and Boneless Leg Chicken.
The chicken sandwich, a burger menu item, is "Popeyes' specialty," based on authentic Cajun style with a modern recipe twist. It features a premium brioche bun rich in buttery flavor, a whole thigh patty prepared using the same cooking method as the chicken, creamy mayonnaise sauce, and crunchy pickles, boasting a rich taste despite its simple composition. In addition to the "Classic Chicken Sandwich" and "Spicy Chicken Sandwich," they offer various menus including the Korea-specialized "K-Chicken Sandwich" and "Deluxe Chicken Sandwich."
A Popeyes representative said, "The reason the chicken sandwich, born after years of research, gained great popularity in the U.S. and is now loved in Korea is thanks to the dedication to high-quality ingredients and menu quality."
Meanwhile, Popeyes plans to open a branch at Hwagok Station in Seoul within this month and will continue to expand its stores steadily.
