[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] In the election held on the 16th for the 52nd President of the Korean Bar Association, candidate number 1, Attorney Kim Young-hoon (59, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 27), was elected.
Attorney Kim graduated from Baemoon High School in Seoul and the Department of Public Law at Seoul National University, and completed graduate studies in law at Seoul National University. He passed the 37th Judicial Examination in 1995, was appointed as a judge at Daejeon District Court in 1998, and left the judiciary after serving as a judge at Suwon District Court to start his law practice in 2005. During the 51st Korean Bar Association executive team, he served as the Vice President of the Bar Association, chaired the 'My Lawyer' operation committee established by the Bar Association to respond to private legal platforms such as LawTalk, and was the inaugural president of the 'National and Public Defense Lawyers Association' under the Bar Association, which works to improve the treatment and protect the rights of court-appointed lawyers.
In this presidential election, three candidates ran: Attorney Kim Young-hoon, who passed the Judicial Examination; Attorney Ahn Byung-hee (61, Military Legal Officer Examination class 7), who passed the Military Legal Officer Appointment Examination; and Attorney Park Jong-heun (57, Military Legal Officer Examination class 10, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 31), who passed both exams.
The Bar Association's Public Relations Team announced, "In the election for the 52nd President of the Korean Bar Association, out of 27,289 eligible voters, Attorney Kim Young-hoon, who received 3,909 votes, was elected as the next president."
Attorney Ahn received 3,774 votes, and Attorney Park received 2,454 votes, respectively.
The certificate awarding ceremony will be held on the 17th at 11 a.m. in the main conference room of the Korean Bar Association building.
