[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Ministry of Education, together with the National Research Foundation of Korea, will hold the "2022 Junior College Innovation Project Performance Dissemination Forum" over two days on the 17th and 18th.
This forum was organized to share and disseminate the 2022 innovation support project operation achievements (educational innovation, industry-academia cooperation innovation, and other innovations) of each junior college.
The Junior College Innovation Support Project aims to cultivate creative field-oriented talents leading innovative growth by supporting the establishment and implementation of autonomous innovation plans tailored to the characteristics of each junior college and regional demands.
Last year, the Ministry of Education supported 104 junior colleges across five regions with a budget of 402 billion KRW through this project, and each junior college has been establishing and implementing autonomous innovation plans reflecting internal and external conditions and capabilities.
Due to high demand and satisfaction for the project at the university level, the budget for this year increased by 220 billion KRW to 622 billion KRW with the establishment of a special account for higher and lifelong education support in December last year.
At this forum, in addition to presentations on the future direction of higher vocational education, excellent innovation cases in areas such as education and industry-academia cooperation from 44 junior colleges will be shared.
On the first day, the 17th, alongside two keynote presentations, 18 colleges will present and share outstanding cases that actively reflect changes in external conditions, including global programs, lifelong vocational education enhancement programs, and community-linked cooperation programs, in addition to educational innovation and industry-academia cooperation innovation cases.
On the 18th, regional roundtable meetings will discuss the development direction for junior colleges, while 26 colleges plan to present and share various educational programs such as student career counseling programs and employment and entrepreneurship support programs.
Deputy Minister of Education Jang Sang-yoon stated, “Junior colleges have been responding swiftly to industrial changes and striving to nurture professional technical talents and support students’ employment and entrepreneurship through the Junior College Innovation Support Project, the most representative financial support project for junior colleges.” He added, “We ask for continued interest and efforts so that junior colleges can further enhance educational innovation achievements, support students’ competency development, and become educational institutions that coexist and develop with their regions.”
