Design Promotion Institute Opens Ulsan Center... Supporting Design Innovation in Mipo Industrial Complex

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea Institute of Design Promotion held an opening ceremony for the 'Ulsan Design-Driven Manufacturing Innovation Center' on the 16th at the factory-type experimental building of Ulsan University.

The Ulsan Center plans to provide various design innovation programs such as design consulting, product design development, prototype production, and marketing to manufacturing companies located in the Mipo National Industrial Complex.

The Mipo National Industrial Complex in Ulsan serves as a central production base for Korea's transportation equipment industry, including automobiles and shipbuilding. It accounts for 59.5% of Ulsan's manufacturing output, 71.4% of exports, and 53.5% of employment.

In the first half of last year, exports increased by 27% compared to the same period the previous year, revitalizing the national economy. The Ulsan Center is expected to drive innovation and growth for companies located in the Mipo Industrial Complex.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Institute signed a business agreement with Ulsan City for 'Design-Driven Manufacturing Innovation in the Ulsan Region.'

Both organizations agreed to join forces to spread design innovation and enhance vitality in the industrial complexes located in Ulsan, and to cooperate in supporting and fostering projects for the promotion of industrial design.

Yoon Sang-heum, President of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, stated, "Based on close cooperation among industry, academia, research, and government, we will assist small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in the Ulsan region in utilizing design to strive for a leap forward in manufacturing."
