Strengthening Food Safety Management... Creating an Environment Where Residents Can Purchase with Confidence

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 16th that it will intensively crack down on the origin labeling of agricultural and marine products and excessive packaging of gift sets ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.

The inspection of origin labeling was conducted from the 9th to the 11th at 167 establishments frequently used by consumers, including traditional markets, conventional markets, and agricultural and marine product retailers.

Three teams of honorary monitors (two people per team) were organized to focus on inspecting ritual agricultural products, gift sets, seafood, and processed seafood products that did not display origin or violated labeling methods.

A second-stage additional inspection will be conducted on establishments with identified issues, and administrative measures such as fines will be taken according to relevant laws if corrective or supplementary actions are not implemented.

In addition, the district will also crack down on excessive packaging of gift sets to reduce resource waste and waste generation.

This week, packaging compliance will be inspected at four medium and large distribution companies, focusing on the number of packaging layers, packaging space ratio, and packaging materials.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “We will do our best to ensure that residents preparing for the holiday can purchase goods with peace of mind and have a comfortable holiday.”

Geumcheon-gu Promotes Unauthorized Item Cleanup in Traditional Markets Ahead of Lunar New Year

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) is promoting intensive cleanup of unauthorized items in traditional markets in preparation for the Lunar New Year.

From the 13th to the 19th (excluding Saturdays and Sundays), crackdowns will be conducted on unauthorized items and illegal street vendors around four traditional markets (Hyundai, Nammun, Daemyeong, Eunhaengnamu Market) to reduce inconvenience for market users and secure fire lanes in case of emergencies.

When unauthorized items are left unattended or illegal street vending occurs, administrative guidance such as distributing “Voluntary Cleanup Notices” will be the main approach, and if not complied with, administrative actions such as fines will be imposed. In addition, in cooperation with the traditional market merchant associations, announcements regarding compliance with the “Voluntary Cleanup Line (Yellow Line)” will be broadcast more than twice daily to merchants within the markets.

After the special crackdown period for the Lunar New Year ends, Geumcheon-gu plans to continue administrative guidance and cleanup by patrolling traditional markets at least once a day to maintain pleasant walkways at all times.

Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “The crackdown was planned to ensure the safety of residents including market users and to resolve traffic inconveniences. We will encourage voluntary cleanup as much as possible through administrative guidance, and impose fines and enforce forced removal on habitual violators.”
