[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) is stepping up efforts to strengthen cooperation in the field of intellectual property between Korea and the UAE.
On the 16th, according to KIPO, Commissioner Lee In-sil held a "Korea-UAE High-Level Meeting on Intellectual Property" with Abdulla Ahmed Al Saleh, Deputy Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in Abu Dhabi (local time).
During the meeting, Commissioner Lee also signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for Deepening Cooperation in the Field of Intellectual Property." The MOU was signed as an extension of the agreement to expand and deepen exchanges between the two countries in areas such as energy, nuclear power, and defense, following President Yoon Suk-yeol's state visit to the UAE.
Based on this, the two countries will collaborate on ▲ sharing know-how on patent information analysis and utilization for effective development of national strategic technologies ▲ intellectual property education cooperation for engineers and graduate students in science and engineering ▲ exchanging information related to new intellectual property fields to protect new technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and metaverse ▲ and examination cooperation in the field of industrial design.
Previously, KIPO and the UAE Ministry of Economy signed a "Comprehensive Cooperation MOU" in 2010 and have since promoted cooperative projects such as patent examination delegation and the establishment of patent information systems.
Additionally, to share experience and know-how related to patent examination practices and to support patent examination delegation, 14 KIPO experts were dispatched to the UAE Ministry of Economy to help the UAE establish a high-quality patent examination system.
Commissioner Lee In-sil stated, "Cooperation in the field of intellectual property between Korea and the UAE has been maintained for over 10 years since 2010, enhancing friendly relations between the two countries. KIPO will continue to make greater efforts to spread Korea's advanced intellectual property system to other countries in the Middle East region."
