Speed Skating Kim Minseon Wins Gold, Park Chaeun Takes Silver

Speed skater Kim Min-seon (Uijeongbu City Hall), participating in the 2023 31st Winter World University Games, won the first gold medal for South Korea in the women's 1000M event.
On January 15 local time, Kim Min-seon won the gold medal in the women's 1000M speed skating event at the James Sheffield Speed Skating Oval (Lake Placid, USA) with a record of 80.46 seconds, setting a new track record at the James Sheffield Speed Skating Oval.
Also, Park Chae-eun (Korea National Sport University) won the bronze medal in the women's 1000M event with a time of 81.85 seconds.
Kim Min-seon said, "I was worried because it was my first time competing outdoors in a while, but I was also very excited. I am happy that good results came out, and I was able to perform well in the first game of the Winter World University Games, which is my first and last participation, and I will finish well until the last game."
Kim Young-do, head of the South Korean delegation and president of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, congratulated the two athletes who won the gold and bronze medals on behalf of the delegation and presented the tournament commemorative mascot.
