Lotte Department Store announced on the 16th that it will operate the 'Same-Day Delivery Service' until just before the Lunar New Year holiday this year as well.

An analysis of sales of holiday gift sets at Lotte Department Store over the past five years (2018?2022) revealed that 20% of total sales occurred during the last four days immediately before the holiday. Since online courier services stop accepting delivery requests 5 to 6 days before the holiday, this reflects the demand from customers who either missed the online purchase window or want to buy gifts as the holiday approaches. This year, with the Lunar New Year arriving early, demand for purchasing gifts is expected to be even more concentrated in the latter part of the season when the holiday atmosphere is felt. In fact, during the early holidays like the 2020 Lunar New Year and the 2022 Chuseok, about 25% of total gift set sales occurred in the last four days.

Accordingly, Lotte Department Store will operate the holiday-exclusive same-day delivery service at all stores in the metropolitan area until January 20, just before the holiday, to enhance customer shopping convenience. The same-day delivery service is a special holiday delivery service by Lotte Department Store that delivers holiday gift sets purchased for 70,000 KRW or more to addresses within a 5 km radius of the purchase store within 3 hours on the same day, quickly and safely. First introduced at the main store during Chuseok 2020, it has been expanded to all metropolitan area stores since Lunar New Year 2021. Amid repeated courier and freight truck strikes in recent years, which have heightened customer concerns, Lotte Department Store’s holiday-exclusive same-day delivery service provides safe and stable delivery under the management of professional personnel, earning customer trust.

The most popular gifts for the holiday-exclusive same-day delivery service are Korean beef (Hanwoo) and fresh fruit sets. Hanwoo and fresh fruit gift sets tend to be bulky and heavy, and unlike general processed foods, require temperature control and shape preservation, so customers prefer the department store’s specialized delivery service over mass courier delivery. Popular products representing this Lunar New Year include designated farm premium mixed gifts, Royal Hanwoo steak gifts, Prestige Hallabong, pear, apple, and Shine gifts, and Food Avenue Shine, apple, and pear gifts. This year, with an expected increase in visitors returning directly to their hometowns compared to last year, gifts such as dried persimmons, traditional Korean sweets (Hangwa), and wine, which are good for families to enjoy together, are also expected to be very popular until just before the holiday.

Meanwhile, starting the day after Lunar New Year, an eco-friendly campaign will be conducted to reduce discarded cooling bags. Cooling bags are functional bags used during delivery to maintain the freshness of gifts but are difficult to recycle, causing environmental issues every holiday. To address this, since last Chuseok, Lotte Department Store has been offering up to 50,000 L.POINTs (5,000 points per bag) to customers who return used Lotte Department Store cooling bags received as gifts. Over 9,200 cooling bags were collected last Chuseok, and the collected bags were upcycled into eco-friendly pouches, which are being given to customers who purchase items until January 24. This year, from January 23 to February 12, a cooling bag collection event will be held at all Lotte Department Store branches’ promotional event halls starting the day after Lunar New Year. The collection target has been expanded this year to include cooling bags used not only for meat and dried persimmon gift sets but also for fresh fish gift sets.
