[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The number of new COVID-19 cases and critically ill patients continues to decline.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 15th at midnight that 32,570 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 29,806,891. The number of new cases on this day is 4,129 fewer than the previous day (36,699 cases).


This is also 14,173 fewer than a week ago on the 8th (46,743 cases), continuing a clear downward trend. Based on Sunday announcements, this is the lowest in 12 weeks since October 23 (26,234 cases).


From the 9th to this day, the daily new cases for the week were 19,089 → 60,024 → 54,333 → 43,949 → 39,726 → 36,699 → 32,570, averaging 40,912 cases per day.


Among the new cases on this day, 104 were imported cases, 5 more than the previous day (99 cases). Of the new imported cases, 64 (62%) were arrivals from China. Domestic community infections accounted for 32,466 cases.


The number of cases by region (including imported cases) are: Gyeonggi 8,235, Seoul 5,749, Busan 2,151, Gyeongnam 2,240, Incheon 2,010, Gyeongbuk 1,721, Daegu 1,522, Chungnam 1,382, Jeonnam 1,100, Jeonbuk 1,210, Gangwon 834, Daejeon 915, Chungbuk 1,025, Gwangju 871, Ulsan 913, Jeju 451, Sejong 230, Quarantine 11.


The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized is 499, 6 fewer than the previous day (505). This is the first time in 29 days since the 17th of last month (468) that the number has fallen below 500. The ICU bed occupancy rate as of 5 p.m. the previous day is 33.8%.


The number of deaths reported the previous day was 37, 8 fewer than the day before (45). The cumulative death toll is 32,949, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
