Nine hospitals operated by the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service have obtained Electronic Medical Record (EMR) usage certification and product certification from the Korea Health Information Service under the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The Service announced on the 15th that following the EMR certification obtained last year by six hospitals in Incheon, Ansan, Changwon, Suncheon, Daejeon, and Taebaek, Daegu, Donghae, and Jeongseon hospitals have additionally received certification, bringing the total number of certified hospitals to nine.
The EMR certification system was introduced in 2020 to ensure that high-quality medical services are provided to healthcare consumers through the operation of systems that comply with national standards.
By standardizing electronic medical records through the certification system, medical records can be shared among medical institutions, which is expected to improve customer convenience and continuity of care. It also helps establish a safe medical environment by managing infection control and medication prescription histories.
To obtain EMR system certification, the Service operated an internal preparation team composed of various professions including medical treatment, pharmacy, medical records, and administration. Continuous education and IT system enhancements were carried out to meet 86 areas including functionality, interoperability, and security, which are the main evaluation criteria of the certification.
Among the approximately 30,000 medical institutions nationwide, only 10.7% had obtained EMR system usage certification as of June last year. Among general hospitals, 17.7%, and among hospitals, only 2.7% had acquired usage certification.
Kang Soon-hee, the director, emphasized, "Obtaining EMR system usage certification has become an opportunity to recognize the excellence and stability of the medical information system in our hospitals," and added, "We will make every effort to thoroughly manage medical information and personal data."
