[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korean Medical Association announced on the 13th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Medical Center to stabilize the medical service system of public health care institutions by securing essential medical personnel.
Through this MOU, both organizations agreed to cooperate on ▲ mutual collaboration to secure essential medical personnel for public hospitals ▲ cooperation in basic personnel surveys and research fields ▲ and other matters recognized by both parties as necessary for cooperation.
Last November, the two organizations held a National Assembly forum on the topic of "Utilization of Senior Medical Personnel for Medically Underserved Areas," discussing concrete plans to expand personnel so that public hospitals can fulfill their role as responsible institutions for essential medical services.
In this process, the idea of having specialized medical personnel who wish to participate in society after retirement work at local community public medical institutions to provide high-quality medical services was raised, leading to this MOU.
Lee Pil-soo, president of the Korean Medical Association, stated, "Securing essential medical personnel in public medical institutions is very important to protect the lives of the people in the event of public health crises such as infectious diseases," and added, "I hope the project matching retired doctors with local public medical institutions will operate stably."
Joo Young-soo, director of the National Medical Center, said, "It has been identified that a significant number of doctors wish to continue practicing after retirement," and added, "Following this agreement, both organizations plan to concretize the project to secure essential personnel for public medical institutions and actively work with the Ministry of Health and Welfare to promote related policies."
