[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The Ioniq 6, the second model of Hyundai Motor's dedicated electric vehicle brand Ioniq, has been recognized as the safest large family car in Europe.
Hyundai Motor announced on the 13th that the Ioniq 6 was selected as the best vehicle in the Large Family Car category of the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
Euro NCAP praised the Ioniq 6 for maintaining a safe passenger compartment during frontal and side collision tests, effectively protecting the major body parts of adult and child occupants. It also evaluated that the combination of a robust body structure, passenger protection airbag system, and various advanced safety assistance features led to achieving the highest safety rating.
Every year, Euro NCAP selects the best vehicles in each category based on the highest combined scores in four evaluation areas: adult occupant safety, child occupant safety, safety assist systems, and vulnerable road user (pedestrians and cyclists) safety.
In November last year, the Ioniq 6 received the highest rating of five stars in all four evaluation areas from the organization, recognizing its outstanding safety.
Large family cars that received five stars from Euro NCAP in 2022 include the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Skoda Octavia, and Kia EV6.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group has demonstrated world-class safety by consecutively achieving the highest ratings at Euro NCAP with the Ioniq 5, EV6, GV60, and Ioniq 6, all equipped with the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP.
