Russia, 36 Added to Sanctions List Including UK Government Officials

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] On the 12th (local time), TASS and Sputnik news agencies reported that Russia added 36 individuals affiliated with the UK government, judiciary, and media organizations to its sanctions list.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the newly added individuals as "people who conducted propaganda activities aimed at distrusting Russia and isolating it on the international stage."

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, it has taken countermeasures in response to the strong sanctions imposed by Western countries.

In March last year, at the early stage of the Ukraine war, Russia designated 48 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and European Union (EU) member states, as unfriendly countries, with South Korea also included.

Furthermore, for individuals, institutions, and organizations considered to have engaged in unfriendly activities against Russia, all exchanges such as trade, financial transactions, and entry and exit to Russia have been banned, and lists of targeted individuals and institutions have been compiled.
