Gijang-gun Completes Phase 1 of Southeast Radiation Medical Science Industrial Complex Development Project

Expectations for Revitalizing Attraction of Advanced Companies and Completing Convergence Clusters

Gijang-gun Completes Phase 1 of Southeast Radiation Medical Science Industrial Complex Development Project Busan Gijang-gun has completed the first phase of the Southeast Radiation Medical and Science General Industrial Complex development project.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Busan Gijang-gun completed the first phase of the county's key project, the ‘Southeast Radiation Medical and Scientific General Industrial Complex’ (hereinafter Southeast Industrial Complex), on the 11th.

The Southeast Industrial Complex is Gijang-gun's largest priority project, aiming to create a specialized complex for advanced radiation medical science industries. It is being developed on a site of 1,478,772㎡ (approximately 450,000 pyeong) in the Jang-an-eup area of Gijang-gun, with a total project cost of 428.7 billion KRW.

The project was initiated with the confirmation of the hosting of the heavy ion accelerator in November 2009, the confirmation of the export-type new research reactor in July 2010, and the opening of the Southeast Nuclear Medicine Institute. The industrial complex plan was established in August 2010, approved and announced in 2012, and construction began in April 2014.

The completion of the first phase corresponds to 430,000㎡ of the total 1,480,000㎡ site development area and includes 50 lots for related industries, 32 lots for support facilities, and 3 lots for parking lots.

Among the 50 related industrial lots in the first phase, 22 lots have been sold, and 8 companies have completed construction and are either fully operational or preparing to operate. The attracted industries include radiation medical science and power semiconductor-related companies, consolidating Busan's new future growth industries.

Within the Southeast Industrial Complex, advanced national projects in the field of radiation medical science are underway, including ▲ Southeast Nuclear Medicine Institute (completed in 2010) ▲ Export-type new research reactor development and demonstration project (2010?2027) ▲ Heavy ion accelerator construction support (2010?2026) ▲ Radioisotope fusion research infrastructure construction (2019?2024) ▲ Power semiconductor industry cluster formation (2017?2023), establishing it as a true forward base for the future industrial revolution.

County Governor Jeong Jong-bok stated, “With the completion of the first phase of the Southeast Industrial Complex, we expect to activate the attraction of radiation medical science-related companies, realize an advanced corporate city, and contribute to the early completion of a radiation medical science convergence cluster linked with industry, academia, and research.”
