[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Police announced on the 12th that they will carry out a "Special Security Activity for the Lunar New Year Holiday" for two weeks from the 11th to the 24th to ensure that residents can spend a peaceful holiday amid increasing security demands.
To this end, crime prevention inspections will be conducted on vulnerable facilities such as financial institutions and gold shops, and a full-scale response system involving local police, traffic units, and riot squads will be maintained. Visible preventive activities will be carried out in residential areas, unmanned stores, traditional markets, and foreigner-dense areas in cooperation with volunteer crime prevention groups.
In addition, flexible patrols will be designated and operated in 246 crime-vulnerable areas requested by residents to improve perceived safety and alleviate residents' anxiety.
Furthermore, 120 mobile CCTVs will be installed at the most appropriate locations to expand a dense security infrastructure.
Since reports of domestic violence tend to concentrate during the holiday period, monitoring will be strengthened for families at risk of recurrence, with focused inspections on prevention and support measures.
To ensure traffic safety and minimize traffic inconvenience, continuous day and night drunk driving checks will be conducted at vulnerable points such as highway entrances and restaurant areas.
During the five-day holiday, 1,663 personnel will be proactively deployed to expected traffic congestion areas including 61 traditional markets, 30 large marts, 12 train stations, and 35 terminals to focus on traffic flow management.
Additionally, to prevent major traffic accidents caused by drowsy driving and secondary collisions, real-time information will be provided using Traffic Alert e, electronic signboards, and traffic broadcasts.
A police official stated, "Through this special security activity, we will strictly respond to crimes against socially vulnerable groups and low-income citizens, and carry out reassuring security activities that residents can feel, making every effort to ensure a peaceful and safe Lunar New Year holiday."
Meanwhile, to prevent traffic accidents involving returning and departing vehicles due to 'black ice,' pre-inspections were conducted on a total of 298 freezing-prone sections (283 on general roads and 15 on highways).
