One in Four Newly Registered Vehicles in China Last Year Was a New Energy Vehicle

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] It was reported that one out of every four newly registered vehicles in China last year was a new energy vehicle such as electric cars, hybrid cars, or hydrogen cars.


On the 11th, China News Network cited statistics from the Ministry of Public Security Traffic Management Bureau, reporting that the total number of newly registered new energy vehicles in China last year was 5.35 million. This represents an 81.5% increase in one year. The proportion of new energy vehicles among all newly registered vehicles (22.32 million) was about 23%.


Accordingly, the total number of new energy vehicles registered in China increased to 13.1 million, and their share of all registered vehicles rose to 4.1%.


Among all new energy vehicles, pure electric vehicles accounted for the largest share with 10.45 million units, representing 79.9%.


According to the China Passenger Car Association, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in China last year was 5.674 million, a 90% surge compared to the previous year.


As of last year, the total number of registered vehicles in China was 319 million, and the number of automobile driver's license holders reached 520 million.
