[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) announced on the 11th that it held the ‘Safety No.1 Seo-gu Pledge Rally’ to mark the first anniversary of the collapse accident at the Hyundai Development Company apartment construction site.
The pledge rally held at the Deulbul Hall of Seo-gu Office was attended by Mayor Kim I-gang of Seo-gu and senior officials of grade 5 and above, as well as team leaders of disaster-related departments.
Other public officials at the district office participated in the announcement of the ‘Safety No.1 Seo-gu Resolution’ through an online video broadcast, reaffirming their sense of duty as public servants.
The resolution prioritized restoring trust in administration and included contents such as ▲thorough safety management at all times in preparation for disasters that can occur anytime and anywhere ▲strict compliance with safety management rules as the responsible agency for disaster management ▲rapid response to minimize damage in case of disaster ▲habitual safety management in daily life.
Mayor Kim I-gang of Seo-gu emphasized, “Safety can never be overemphasized, and we must spare no effort to create ‘Safety No.1 Seo-gu’ with the belief that safety issues can never be compromised.”
At the rally, Mr. Ahn Jeong-ho, a representative of the bereaved families of the victims of the collapse accident one year ago, attended and said, “Through the accident, I deeply felt how important the role of administration is, and I thank the public officials who gave great support so that the bereaved families could return to their daily lives.” He urged, “Please make a safe society by learning from the past accident so that the families’ sacrifices are not in vain.”
On the same day, Seo-gu invited Professor Song Chang-young from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Gwangju University to conduct disaster safety capacity-building training for public officials under the theme of ‘Strengthening Disaster Safety Capabilities of Basic Local Governments.’
