Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Holds Meeting to Promote Female Employment to Overcome Population Cliff Crisis

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will hold a meeting on the afternoon of the 12th at the Government Seoul Office to explore ways to expand women's participation in economic activities.

This meeting was organized to find ways to solidify the recent recovery trend in women's employment at a time when the importance of utilizing female labor is increasing due to the decline in the working-age population caused by low birth rates and aging.

At this meeting, job experts and officials from the Women's New Employment Center (Saeil Center) will present analyses of the employment status of married women and policy tasks for nurturing and utilizing future female labor.

The first presenter, Lee Jeong-ah, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Employment Information Service, will explain the long-term alleviation trend of women's career interruptions through an analysis of the economically active population survey. Lee analyzes that not only has the proportion of married women decreased, but also the introduction of systems to prevent career interruptions and a more favorable socio-economic environment for women's participation in economic activities compared to the past have influenced this trend.

In the second presentation, senior research fellows Kim Jong-sook and Shin Seon-mi from the Korean Women's Development Institute will propose policy tasks to prevent career interruptions and outlooks on women's jobs in the fields of information and communication technology (ICT), semiconductors, and small and medium manufacturing industries.
