'Decision to Leave' Fails to Win Golden Globe for Best Non-English Language Film

Award goes to director Mitre for 'Argentina, 1985'

Director Park Chan-wook's film "Decision to Leave" failed to win the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, Non English Language. On the 11th (Korean time), at the 80th Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles (LA), USA, it was nominated alongside "All Quiet on the Western Front" (Germany) and "RRR: Rise Roar Revolt" (India), but lost to "Argentina, 1985" (Argentina). Directed by Santiago Mitre, "Argentina, 1985" is based on the true story of a legal team who prosecuted the worst military dictator in Argentine history and struggled both inside and outside the courtroom. It has been recognized as a notable film for its realistic depiction of human rights abuses scattered by military dictatorship and the pressure from the military. "Decision to Leave" is Park’s first feature film in six years since "The Handmaiden." The film elegantly portrays the love and tension that detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il), investigating a suspicious death, feels simultaneously as suspicion and interest toward the deceased’s wife Seo-rae (Tang Wei), but unfortunately missed out on the trophy. Director Park previously won the Best Director award at the 75th Cannes Film Festival for this film last year.
