[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Daegu Jung-gu Office is seeking revitalization plans for 14 famous alleys to revive the alley markets, which are the backbone of the local economy.
On the 11th, Daegu Jung-gu Office announced, "We will start an academic service for revitalizing local alley markets, including 14 distinctive famous alleys such as Dongin Jjimgalbi Alley and Daesin-dong Chimjang Alley."
Through this study on revitalization plans for famous alley markets, they will not only investigate the basic status of the famous alleys and identify the actual demands of merchants but also seek development strategies to secure competitiveness for each famous alley and ways to increase market revitalization through linkage among the famous alleys. Additionally, they will consider holding festivals that were previously held in each alley as specialized festivals by district according to the market characteristics or as joint festivals.
On the 12th, a kickoff briefing session, signaling the start of the study, will be held in the situation room on the 3rd floor of Jung-gu Office, where the chairpersons of merchants' associations representing the 14 famous alleys will directly participate and provide practical opinions. Subsequently, the study will proceed in earnest through on-site investigations and merchant interviews in the famous alleys.
The final report meeting is scheduled for March, after three months of research, and the study is expected to revive the alley markets, which are the cornerstone of the local economy.
Ryu Gyu-ha, head of Daegu Jung-gu Office, said, "We aim to breathe new life into the alley markets, which have been further depressed by COVID-19, through this project. We will carefully listen to the merchants' real voices and conduct thorough research to provide residents and tourists with the enjoyment of discovering distinctive alleys and present satisfactory development strategies and revitalization plans to the merchants."
Daegu Jung-gu has 14 famous alleys: Dongin Jjimgalbi Alley, Gyodong Jewelry Alley, Gyodong Electronics Alley, Bongsan Culture Street, Hyangchon-dong Handmade Shoes Alley, Jongno·Jin Alley, Yakjeon Alley, Deoksan Rice Cake Alley, Bukseong Tool Alley, Ingyeo-dong Motorcycle Alley, Daesin-dong Sewing Machine Alley, Daesin-dong Socks Alley, Namsan-dong Printing Alley, and Namsan-dong Automobile Alley.
