Changwon Special City Reduces Transportation Costs for Lunar New Year Travelers Changwon Special City Hall

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City announced on the 11th that it will implement free tolls on toll roads managed by Changwon City during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

The roads in question are the ‘Jigae-Namsan Connecting Road,’ which connects National Road 79 in Jigaeri, Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu and National Road 25 in Namsan-ri, Dong-eup, and the Pallyong Tunnel, which connects Yangdeok Intersection in Yangdeok-dong, Masanhwoe-gu and Pyeongsan Intersection in Pallyong-dong, Uichang-gu.

The free toll period will be for four days, from 0:00 on the 21st, the day before Lunar New Year, until midnight on the 24th, the last day of the holiday. All vehicles using the roads during this time will be eligible for free toll benefits.

Drivers can pass through the toll booths slowly without distinguishing between Hi-Pass lanes and general lanes.

The city expects about 54,000 vehicles to use the ‘Jigae-Namsan Connecting Road’ and about 44,000 vehicles to use the ‘Pallyong Tunnel’ during the four-day holiday period, and the total expected toll fee waived, which will be fully supported by the city, is approximately 100 million KRW.

Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, “By exempting toll fees on toll roads within Changwon City, we aim to reduce the transportation costs for visitors returning to their hometowns, and we also expect traffic volume to be dispersed due to free tolls, which will help alleviate vehicle congestion and reduce social costs.”

With the free toll implementation during this Lunar New Year holiday on toll roads managed by Gyeongnam Province, including the Machang Bridge, Changwon-Busan Road, and Geoga Expressway, all five toll roads in the province will have tolls waived, which is expected to provide convenience to users visiting their hometowns and help reduce expenses.
