"Up to 30% Discount on Seafood Purchases"... Gyeongju Seongdong and Jungang Markets, Andong Jungangsin Market Last year, consumers purchased seafood at Gyeongju Jungang Market and received Onnuri gift certificates.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Gyeongbuk Province is offering up to a 30% discount on seafood purchases at three local traditional markets for eight days from the 14th to the 21st in celebration of the Seollal holiday.


On the 11th, Gyeongbuk Province announced, "From the 14th to the 21st, customers who purchase domestic seafood, dried seafood, and salted seafood products at Gyeongju Seongdong and Jungang Markets, as well as Andong Jungang New Market, will receive up to a 30% discount. This event is promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to reduce the burden on consumers visiting traditional markets."


Consumers who bring their ID along with card or cash receipts from purchases made at participating stores during the event period will receive up to 30% of the seafood purchase amount on the day back in Onnuri gift certificates, based on the payment amount for domestic seafood. However, the refund is capped at a maximum of 20,000 KRW per person.


This discount event is open to all citizens, and tourists visiting from other regions can also participate as long as they carry their ID.


Gyeongbuk Province has prepared 220 million KRW worth of Onnuri gift certificates and will continue the discount event until all are exhausted.


Lee Kyung-gon, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "We hope this will help ease the burden on consumers visiting traditional markets during Seollal and serve as an opportunity to revitalize the stagnant traditional market economy. We will also expand seafood consumption promotion events for small business owners and consumers following the lifting of social distancing measures."
