[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] SBV Tech, the first company in Korea to develop a robot reducer using its own technology, is seeing its stock price rise. As major companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Hyundai Motor Company are actively promoting the robot business as a new growth engine, attention is focused on related stocks.
At 11:17 a.m. on the 10th, SBV Tech was trading at 21,900 KRW, up 8.15% from the previous day.
SBV Tech is a developer of reducers for robots. A reducer is a key component that amplifies the motor's torque in robots and automation devices to precisely control the robot. Although the market is dominated 90% by Japanese companies, SBV Tech succeeded in localization by mass-producing the 'Harmonic Reducer,' a core component of robots, for the first time in Korea in 2013.
Kiwoom Securities evaluated SBV Tech's reducers as having the advantage of diverse products by dimension and easy customization due to the possibility of gear design. Although prices vary by specification, they are about 60-80% of the price of harmonic reducers, and the delivery period is 12-16 weeks, about 6 weeks shorter than competitors, which gives them competitiveness.
The company supplies products not only to the robot industry but also to various industries such as semiconductors and defense. Major customers include Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, TSMC, Hanwha Defense, and Hyundai Robotics.
SBV Tech's strength lies in its ability to directly design and manufacture the Wave Generator Bearing and Cross Roller Bearing used in robot reducers. Additionally, it possesses proprietary gear design and processing technologies, which differentiate it from other competitors who merely replicate products. The ROBO BEARING is a thin bearing with an extremely small cross-sectional area, allowing the bearing installation space to be minimized. It is one of the essential components in the vacuum robot drive unit during semiconductor manufacturing processes.
FS Research introduced SBV Tech as having secured over 60 customers related to robots and smart factories, including Samsung Heavy Industries, Hanwha, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Highgain Antenna, Alpha Robotics, and Robostar. It is believed to be involved in multi-joint robots, essential equipment for factory automation such as Samsung Display. The independent gear design patent from 2016 was jointly registered by SBV Tech and Samsung Display. It is also judged that sales to Samsung Display accounted for a significant portion in the first half of this year.
