[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] “It is necessary to make efforts to thoroughly understand and identify what the residents currently demand and need.”
Gyeongnam Governor Park Wansu said this at the heads of departments and bureaus meeting on the 9th.
Governor Park said, “While residents’ lives are rapidly changing, there are cases where administration remains stagnant, causing a gap,” and added, “The administration must actively support residents so that they can conveniently use leisure sectors including park golf courses, as well as demands arising from the development of mobile communications.”
He also said, “Efforts to reflect policies that respond to the voices of residents are necessary.”
He stated, “In addition to the heads of departments and bureaus meeting, we will hold a residents’ meeting once a month to listen to various voices such as suggestions and criticisms about provincial administration and reflect them in governance,” emphasizing, “We must always keep residents’ demands in mind when creating policies.”
He also instructed to review two-way communication methods between the province and residents, such as providing customized information to residents through policy mailing services and collecting related opinions.
Governor Park also mentioned his visit on the 6th to the Korean Federation of Trade Unions Gyeongnam Headquarters and the Federation of Korean Trade Unions Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters.
“We will actively address requests such as the local government’s proactive role in industrial accident prevention, operation of labor rights centers, and improvement of treatment for care service workers,” he said.
Regarding the Audit Committee, he ordered moderate execution of duties without being swayed by sentiment.
“If the Audit Committee is trapped in leniency and fails to fulfill its role, organizational discipline may deteriorate,” he said, adding, “Please boldly eliminate wrongdoings and properly perform audit functions so that the administration can gain residents’ trust.”
He also gave instructions on selecting institutions for the second public institution relocation, efforts to attract them, managing prices, preparing measures for the Lunar New Year holiday, and early execution of those measures.
Governor Park said, “We have achieved results where many of the tasks we proposed, such as simplifying the entry procedures for foreign workers, lifting the Greenbelt, operating the Suseo high-speed railway, and developing tourism on the southern coast, have been reflected in government policies,” and added, “Let us lead the central government not only in regional development policies but also in jobs, social welfare, education, and cultural policies, and strive to develop and implement policies necessary for residents.”
