Park Sung-hyun reflected on her six years living in the United States, revealing, "Until last year, I went through painful days."
On the 9th, at a clothing sponsorship agreement ceremony held at Amazing Kree in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Park responded to reporters' questions about her past life in the U.S. with these words.
She calmly looked back on her seventh year in the U.S., saying, "In the early days of my U.S. career, I thought I was doing well. However, after that, my performance declined, and I experienced painful days until last year," adding, "Nevertheless, I was happy for six years, and I believe even happier days are ahead."
Park Sung-hyun, who moved her main stage to the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) in 2017, swept awards such as the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Money List leader along with a victory that year. Afterward, a long slump began. Starting with an unfortunate shoulder injury in 2020, she failed to place in the 'Top 10' in any tournament she entered, and her world ranking, once No. 1, dropped outside the top 100.
She also shared how she matured through these hardships. She said, "On difficult days, I considered them just one of many passing days," and added, "Living in the U.S. naturally strengthened my mind. I think it was a significant life experience." She also mentioned, "Since the second half of last year, many people have said I seem mentally more relaxed."
Perhaps thanks to regaining her composure, Park Sung-hyun, who had been struggling with a long slump, signaled her comeback by finishing third at the KLPGA Tour Hite Jinro Championship in October last year. She is currently focusing on physical training ahead of the new season.
Park said, "I achieved my best result at last season's Hite Jinro Championship, but I was disappointed to end the season right after that tournament," and expressed her ambition, "This year, I am training harder than last year. I will lift the winner's trophy this season."
Park Sung-hyun will depart for the U.S. on the 20th of this month and will conduct pre-season training until the LPGA Tour Drive On Championship in March.
