[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] T map Mobility announced on the 9th that it will provide its self-developed advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and T map high-definition road map (HD map) for the ‘EX90’ electric vehicle model to be released domestically by Volvo Cars. The HD map is planned to be expanded to various brand models, including vehicles applying Volvo Cars’ SPA2 platform.

The HD map has performance more than 10 times advanced compared to existing navigation systems. It provides accurate location information at the actual road level, such as road curvature, slope, and speed limit information. Currently, mobile and in-vehicle navigation systems recognize all roads simply as a single ‘line,’ but the HD map contains detailed information such as lane spacing, fixed road obstacles, and central boundary lines. It is expected to be particularly useful for lane changes when entering highways.

Over the past two years, T map Mobility has succeeded in building an HD map covering 100,000 km nationwide through a mapping process using mobile mapping system (MMS) equipment equipped with LiDAR and radar, data collection, and image recognition technology. Drivers can receive map data with an accuracy level within a 25 cm error range on nationwide highways and expressways.

When driving a vehicle equipped with the T map HD map, obstacles such as central dividers installed on the road can be recognized in advance to prevent collision accidents. Also, drivers can know the lane to move fastest to the destination in advance, saving travel time and experiencing predictable safe driving.

Park Seo-ha, head of Future Mobility at T map Mobility, said, “To improve the accuracy and safety of autonomous driving technology, we will continuously provide the latest HD map to customers through an online streaming method,” and added, “We will strengthen collaboration so that the T map HD map can become the ‘core brain’ for automakers’ autonomous driving technology advancement in the future.”
