[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Ulsan Ulju-gun Public Health Center is conducting a 'free pneumococcal vaccination' for seniors aged 65 and older until the end of this year.
The eligible recipients are seniors born on or before December 31, 1958, who have not received the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine. Those with previous pneumococcal vaccination history can get vaccinated after consulting the health center.
Pneumococcus is an infectious disease that causes pneumonia accompanied by bacteremia, meningitis, endocarditis, and other conditions.
Early symptoms are similar to a cold, but for seniors aged 65 and older, infection with bacteremia has a fatality rate of 60%, and meningitis has a fatality rate of up to 80%, making it very deadly.
Vaccination candidates should bring their ID and visit the nearest hospital or clinic, or Ulju-gun Public Health Center, Nambu Integrated Health Branch, or Beomseo Branch regardless of their registered residence to receive the vaccination.
For detailed consultation regarding vaccination, contact Ulju-gun Public Health Center.
An official from Ulju-gun Public Health Center said, "Since the elderly with weakened immunity have a high incidence of pneumococcal infections, vaccination is essential," and added, "Prevention is possible with just one vaccination, so those who wish to be vaccinated should consult medical staff and make sure to get vaccinated."
