[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will hold a direct market for Lunar New Year at the basement level 1 of Dobong-gu Office for two days from the 11th to the 12th.


The operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


This direct market features participation from 14 local governments including Dobong-gu’s sister cities Yangju-si, Wonju-si, Buan-gun, and Hongcheon-gun. High-quality holiday essentials such as ▲fruits ▲galbi (Korean ribs) ▲dried seafood ▲grains, as well as regional specialties like ▲chestnuts ▲honey ▲dried yellow corvina ▲jeotgal (fermented seafood) are available at prices 10-20% lower than market prices.


Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We ask residents to visit this venue for win-win cooperation between urban and rural areas, where you can purchase high-quality agricultural, livestock, and marine products and support local farmers.”

Mapo-gu to Hold Lunar New Year Direct Market at Mapo-gu Office Plaza on the 12th-13th


Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will host a ‘Lunar New Year Agricultural and Specialty Products Direct Market and Bazaar’ at the district office plaza for two days from the 12th to the 13th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., to celebrate the traditional Korean holiday.


This direct market will showcase excellent agricultural and specialty products produced by sister cities of Mapo-gu, including Gochang-gun in Jeonbuk, Yecheon-gun in Gyeongbuk, Cheongyang-gun in Chungnam, Namhae-gun in Gyeongnam, Gokseong-gun in Jeonnam, Sangju-si in Gyeongbuk, Imsil-gun in Jeonbuk, and Gangwon-do.


Products such as apples, traditional Korean sweets (hangwa) for ancestral rites, and traditional processed foods like doenjang (soybean paste), gochujang (red chili paste), and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste), as well as regional specialties like cheese, dried persimmons, and honey will be sold at prices lower than market rates.


Additionally, the Mapo-gu Volunteer Center will hold a bazaar, donating the proceeds to the Mapo Welfare Foundation, adding meaningfulness to the event.


The district actively promotes various urban-rural exchange and cooperation projects that benefit both consumers and producers, such as opening direct markets during holidays when agricultural and specialty product consumption increases and operating a salted shrimp market during kimchi-making season.


Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We hope this direct market and bazaar will provide some support to struggling farmers. We also wish residents, who may feel burdened by rising prices preparing for the Lunar New Year, to have a generous holiday with affordable and high-quality agricultural and specialty products.”

Seodaemun-gu to Hold 2023 Lunar New Year Direct Market at District Office Plaza on the 11th

24 Cities and Counties Participate, Expecting Mutual Benefits through Expanded Sales Channels and Promotion



Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) is preparing a market to sell over 300 items of agricultural, livestock, and marine products and holiday essentials at prices lower than market rates ahead of Lunar New Year.


The district will hold the 2023 Lunar New Year direct market at the district office plaza on the 11th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Participants include 24 cities and counties nationwide such as Jangheung, Yeongdong, Jeju, Asan, and Wanju, which are sister cities of Seodaemun-gu, as well as Yeonggwang, Hadong, Taean, Chungju, Seocheon, Chuncheon, Sokcho, and Wando.


The product lineup is diverse, including Hongseong Hanwoo beef, Yeonggwang dried yellow corvina, Jeju Redhyang citrus and boneless cutlassfish, Wando seaweed, as well as pork, wild greens, jeotgal (fermented seafood), rice cake soup rice cakes, and traditional Korean sweets, allowing customers to prepare well for the Lunar New Year. The first 200 visitors will receive a shopping bag.


At the direct market, producers and producer groups sell regional specialties directly without intermediaries, ensuring affordable, fresh, and trustworthy purchases.


Moreover, sellers will voluntarily donate up to 5% of their proceeds to the Community Chest of Korea to support neighbors in need, adding significance to the event.


Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “We expect this Lunar New Year direct market to be mutually beneficial, allowing residents to purchase good products at affordable prices while farmers and livestock producers expand their sales channels and promote regional specialties.”
