Wires Neatened... Gumi-si Achieves Top National Grade for Two Consecutive Years in Aerial Cable Maintenance Project

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province (Mayor Kim Jang-ho) received the highest national rating for the second consecutive year due to the achievements of last year's aerial cable maintenance project.

In 2022, Gumi City carried out the aerial cable maintenance project in 14 districts including Doryang-dong, Seonjuwonnam-dong, Sangmo Sagok-dong, and Hyeonggok 2-dong, and was selected as the highest grade nationwide in the Ministry of Science and ICT's local government performance evaluation.

Accordingly, Gumi City increased the project budget from 5.7 billion KRW to 7.28 billion KRW, securing funds to accelerate the maintenance project this year as well.

The aerial cable maintenance project is aimed at neatly organizing aerial cables such as electric wires and communication lines tangled around utility poles near roads and residential areas, which spoil the urban landscape and can lead to safety accidents.

In January, the project areas will be selected and residents' opinions collected. To ensure the successful promotion of the maintenance project, an on-site task force composed of residents, public officials, and experts for each target area will be formed and operated, and public relations efforts will be strengthened.

Lee Jae-ho, Director of the Information and Communication Division, said, “According to the 2nd Aerial Cable Maintenance Mid-to-Long-Term Comprehensive Plan (2021?2025), we will do our best to continuously carry out the aerial cable maintenance project to create a safe living environment for citizens, a pleasant urban environment, and to help improve residential conditions.”
