[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) held a New Year's greeting event on the 4th at the Grand Theater of Gangdong Art Center, inviting about 1,000 residents to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit 2023.
At this event, the district selected residents and organizations who contributed to the development of the local community over the past year and awarded the Gangdong-gu Citizen Grand Prize. Especially this year, residents born in the Year of the Rabbit, new students, and young adults starting their social lives were also invited to share the future vision of Gangdong-gu and hopes for the new year, creating a meaningful time together.
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said in her New Year's address, “I will do my best to create a ‘Vigorous Change, Proud Gangdong’ by holding fast to promises made to residents with conviction and principles.” She added, “In the Year of the Rabbit 2023, I ask for your support as we watch and participate in the changes and development of Gangdong-gu as it takes a new leap forward.”

Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, attended the ‘1st Lifelong Education Council Meeting of 2023’ held on the afternoon of the 5th at the Communication Room (4th floor) of the district office.
The Yangcheon-gu Lifelong Education Council, aimed at coordinating lifelong education policies and building cooperative networks, consists of 11 members (8 appointed members and 3 ex officio members), including Chairman Lee Ki-jae, the mayor.
On this day, Mayor Lee Ki-jae appointed new members due to term expirations and participated in the interim report of the mid- to long-term development plan research for lifelong learning, engaging in in-depth discussions for the development of lifelong education policy projects.
Mapo-gu Holds Resident Autonomy Committee Member Appointment Ceremony
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-soo) held the ‘2023 Mapo-gu Resident Autonomy Committee Member Appointment Ceremony’ at 2 p.m. on the 5th in the large auditorium on the 2nd floor of Mapo-gu Office.
This appointment ceremony was held to appoint additional members recruited to secure representation for the Resident Autonomy Committees in four districts where vacancies had occurred.
The newly appointed members will serve a two-year term and will engage in activities such as establishing autonomy plans to improve residents' lives, various education programs, events, and revitalizing resident autonomy and village communities.
Park Kang-soo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I ask all newly appointed members to actively participate in activities for the development of the Mapo community,” adding, “Together with the Resident Autonomy Committee, we will create and develop an autonomy culture suitable for our region and build a new and better Mapo.”

Gangseo-gu’s Love Thermometer, Ranked No.1 in Fundraising Last Year, Boils Despite the Cold Wave... Early Achievement of This Year’s Goal of 2 Billion KRW as of December 30 Last Year
The Love Thermometer of Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo), which ranked first in fundraising among Seoul’s autonomous districts last year, is heating up again this year.
As of December 30 last year, the district had already achieved the annual fundraising goal of 2 billion KRW ahead of schedule, with the Love Thermometer surpassing 100 degrees. This was accomplished 52 days after the start of fundraising.
Donations continue from senior citizens collecting recyclables, churches that have been donating for over 10 years, and generous contributions from companies.
On the morning of the 5th, the district received 1,000 bags of 10kg rice from Gangseo Agricultural Cooperative (Chairman Han Myung-chul) in front of the district office main gate. The Love Rice donation ceremony has been held annually since 2018 and is now in its sixth year.
On the 8th, Baekwang Church in Deungchon-dong donated 1,004 bags of 10kg rice. They have practiced neighborly love without fail every year since 2012. On the 21st, youth from Healing Church in Hwagok 1-dong donated 2.1 million KRW from flea market proceeds to support senior citizens collecting recyclables.
Support from companies and organizations continues as well. S-Oil (CEO Hussein A. Al-Khatani) donated 50 million KRW, Koltech (CEO Park Young-ho) donated 30 million KRW, M-Cube Technology (CEO Kim Jung-hoe) donated 20 million KRW, and the Korea Health Management Association (Chairman Kim In-won) and The Wise Dental Clinic (Director Lim Se-woong) each donated 10 million KRW.
Additionally, Steel Garden (CEO Kim Sung-min) donated 350 bags of 10kg rice, and eight organizations of the Gangseo Market Intermediate Wholesalers Association donated 128 bags of 20kg rice, continuing the warm-hearted support to help neighbors in need.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “Although everyone is facing difficulties due to COVID-19, I deeply thank all those who have extended their warm hands to ensure a warm winter for the socially marginalized in our community.” He added, “The district will also build a more detailed welfare network and take better care of vulnerable groups in need of care.”
