Another Pillar of Autonomous Defense, 'Signal Analysis Technology'... LIG Nex1 and Hanyang University Open 'Signal Intelligence Research Center'

Joint Development of Core Signal Intelligence Analysis Solution in Operational Field

Another Pillar of Autonomous Defense, 'Signal Analysis Technology'... LIG Nex1 and Hanyang University Open 'Signal Intelligence Research Center' The opening ceremony of the 'LIG Nex1 Consortium - Hanyang University Signal Information Research Center' is taking place.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] LIG Nex1 has opened a Signal Intelligence Research Center at Hanyang University and started developing solutions related to the defense industry sector.

LIG Nex1 recently announced on the 5th that it held an opening ceremony for the ‘LIG Nex1 Consortium - Hanyang University Signal Intelligence Research Center’ at Hanyang University, attended by key figures including Kook Chan-ho, Head of LIG Nex1 C4ISTAR R&D Headquarters, Moon Byung-ho, Director of the Electronic Warfare Research Institute, and Yoon Dong-won, Director of Hanyang University Signal Intelligence Specialized Research Center.

The Signal Intelligence Research Center is a consortium composed of LIG Nex1 and partner companies NetCustomize, Mirae System, and Onpum, which will invest 2 billion KRW over five years to jointly develop signal intelligence analysis solutions with Hanyang University in the core area of electronic warfare electromagnetic spectrum operation.

Although some overseas companies possess technology to analyze unknown signal intelligence, it is known that these solutions are not suitable for the domestic signal environment and lack scalability because they do not provide foundational technology.

In this environment, the plan is to develop an independent signal intelligence analysis solution tailored to the domestic signal environment using purely domestic technology, thereby contributing to strengthening the technological competitiveness of the Korean defense industry.

LIG Nex1 plans to enhance South Korea’s next-generation defense capabilities by maximizing the integration of its accumulated development experience across all defense business fields such as aerospace, guided weapons, surveillance reconnaissance, communications, avionics, and electronic warfare with Hanyang University’s advanced signal intelligence technology.

Kook Chan-ho, Head of LIG Nex1 C4ISTAR R&D Headquarters, said, “Through close cooperation with Hanyang University, we hope to localize signal intelligence acquisition solutions, which have mostly relied on imports, and contribute to the advancement of autonomous defense technology.”

Professor Yoon Dong-won of Hanyang University, the chief research director, stated, “Based on the experience of operating the Signal Intelligence Specialized Research Center designated by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, we have taken the first step toward joint research for technological independence in the field of signal intelligence.”
