A ramp has been installed at the entrance of restaurants in Jung-gu, Daegu City, to allow people with disabilities to easily enter using wheelchairs.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] On the 4th, Daegu Jung-gu Office is providing information on its website about restaurants, cafes, and food stores that have installed ramps or other facilities at their entrances to accommodate wheelchair users as part of the major welfare policy for the disabled, the 'Creating a Threshold-Free Jung-gu Project.'
Daegu Jung-gu Office has newly established a menu called 'List of Wheelchair Accessible Stores' on the district office website.
This section provides detailed information on 110 stores in the Jung-gu area that have no thresholds or have ramps installed, making them easily accessible for wheelchair users. The information includes store names, phone numbers, locations, business types, facility sizes, and the status of convenience facilities (entry methods, parking spaces reserved for the disabled, wheelchair-accessible restrooms, etc.).
A Daegu Jung-gu Office official stated, “Due to the frequent disputes between disabled persons and store owners caused by the absence of wheelchair ramps, complaints have often arisen. Therefore, we are providing detailed information through the website. While some local governments in Gyeonggi Province disclose such information on their websites, Daegu Jung-gu is the first in Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions to do so.”
According to legal regulations regarding convenience facilities for the disabled, restaurants, retail stores, beauty salons, and other establishments with a floor area exceeding 50㎡ are required to install facilities such as ramps, but there is no mandatory requirement if the area is smaller.
Ryu Gyu-ha, Mayor of Daegu Jung-gu Office, said, “Currently, the information mainly covers restaurants, but we plan to gradually expand disclosure to include pharmacies, convenience stores, and others to ensure that disabled people can go out in wheelchairs without difficulty.”
