Byeongno Lee, Damyang County Governor, Inspects Water Purification Plant Operations in Preparation for Drought

Measures to Secure Alternative Water Sources by Finding New Reservoirs and Verification of Water Quality Management Status

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the afternoon of the 3rd, Lee Byeongno, the mayor of Damyang County, visited the Water Circulation Plant and Singye Water Purification Plant to receive a report on the progress of drought countermeasures and to inspect the operation status of the purification plant to ensure a stable supply of tap water.

According to the county on the 4th, the cumulative rainfall in Damyang in 2022 was 827.7mm, which is only 67% compared to 2021 (1242.8mm), and the water levels of Pyeongnim Dam and Singye Reservoir continue to decline.

If the drought persists, it is expected that residents will suffer greatly from drinking water shortages, industrial water shortages, and crop damage.

The mayor emphasized, “Please focus on establishing continuous raw water securing measures that can respond to climate change, preparing for deterioration of raw water quality due to reservoir water level decline, and strengthening management of all routes through which tap water is supplied to consumers.”

Currently, the county is making multifaceted efforts to secure domestic water through emergency water source supply, appropriate water pressure adjustment, leakage detection and repair work on water pipelines to improve water flow rate, development of alternative water sources, and wide-area-local emergency connection pipelines.

Mayor Lee Byeongno said, “Although the amount of tap water usage has been reduced by about 10% through the residents’ water-saving campaign, continuous water-saving habits in daily life are most important to overcome the drought without water supply restrictions,” and added, “We will do our best to prevent inconvenience to residents caused by water supply restrictions.”
