The total number of selected candidates is 1,850 (800 fully supported, 1,050 partially supported). Applications can be submitted at the administrative welfare centers of the five towns and townships in Gijang-gun during the recruitment period. After the candidate review committee meeting at the end of February, the selected candidates will be announced on the Gijang-gun website.
Selected residents can choose between a comprehensive cancer screening or cerebrovascular screening and will receive the examination at the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center.
For seniors aged 65 and over, national veterans, recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, low-income groups, single-parent families, and registered disabled persons, the full examination cost of 800,000 KRW will be supported. For residents aged 40 and over who do not meet these conditions, 700,000 KRW will be supported, allowing them to receive expensive screenings by paying only a 100,000 KRW personal contribution.
Eligibility for application is based on having a residence in Gijang-gun as of the announcement date (December 19, 2022) and having lived continuously for more than three years, or for those relocated from other regions due to nuclear power plant construction, those who had their resident registration in Gori, Hyoam-ri, or Gilcheon-ri in Jangan-eup before May 31, 2003, and lived continuously for more than three years, aged 40 or older.
Additionally, foreigners who have registered as foreigners in Gijang-gun and have continuously resided for more than three years, and who are married to a Korean citizen and aged 40 or older, are eligible to apply. In 2023, the support fund will be expanded to 1.2 billion KRW annually to enable more residents to receive screenings than before.
A Gijang-gun official stated, "As the era of 100 years of life arrives, interest in healthy living has increased. The foundation of maintaining health is prevention. Through this project, we expect to reduce the burden of health screening costs and help residents lead healthy lives by early detection of diseases through screenings."
The "Gijang-gun Residents Health Promotion Project" is a program that supports residents' health screening costs in cooperation with the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center for residents to live healthy lives. Over the past 13 years, 1 billion KRW of county funds have been invested annually, supporting a total of about 12 billion KRW in screening costs, and by 2022, more than 18,000 residents have received support.
