[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Kim Yongbin, chairman of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction, a subsidiary of Korea Technology, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 3rd that he will resign from his positions as director of the Korea Curling Federation and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction Chairman Kim Yong-bin Resigns as President of the Korea Curling Federation

Chairman Kim Yongbin stated, "Due to the worsening internal and external management environment, I have decided to resign from the presidency of the Korea Curling Federation and the directorship of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee to fully focus on the management of the current company and achieve business normalization." He added, "I plan to suspend all activities related to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and SNS activities until the company is stabilized."

Since being elected as the 9th president of the Korea Curling Federation in January 2021, Chairman Kim Yongbin has held referee training sessions and hosted the first-ever World Curling Academy ice maker invitation training in Korea, achieving ▲ expansion of curling venues and educational infrastructure ▲ globalization of curling through hosting world championships ▲ expansion of national curling competitions involving both athletes and enthusiasts.

In addition, he has served as ▲ Vice President of the Asian Canoe Confederation (ACC) General Assembly ▲ Deputy Head of the 2018 Asian Games delegation ▲ Deputy Head of the Beijing Winter Olympics delegation.

Chairman Kim Yongbin said, "As part of volunteer work and social contribution, I served as president of the Korea Curling Federation to expand the base and enhance the status of winter sports in Korea, but it was regrettable that some perceived it as if I did it for personal gain." He added, "Although it is unfortunate to part ways with the curling community, I will return as one of Korea's curlers, not as the federation president, and will always support Korean curling."
