Jin Kyung-sik Appointed as New Deputy Mayor, Former Head of Seoul City Housing Maintenance Division and Public Development Planning Team

Expected to Utilize Extensive Experience in Seoul's Urban Development Sector

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced that Jin Kyung-sik, Deputy Director (photo), has been appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Seodaemun-gu through the Seoul City’s regular personnel reshuffle effective January 1, 2023.

Deputy Mayor Jin previously served as Head of the Architecture Culture Team, Long-term Lease Team, Architecture Policy Team, and Urban Management Policy Team in Seoul City. Since 2016, he has held positions such as Head of the Apartment Housing Division, Regeneration Cooperation Division, Housing Maintenance Division, and Public Development Planning Team.

Notably, the new Deputy Mayor of Seodaemun-gu is a technical official specializing in architecture.

The district expects that Deputy Mayor Jin’s extensive experience in urban development will accelerate projects focused on revitalizing outdated infrastructure and improving the urban environment within the district, which are key priorities of the 8th local government administration, through smooth communication and cooperation with Seoul City.

Upon his appointment, Deputy Mayor Jin stated, “I am well aware of Seodaemun-gu’s regional development vision, including the establishment of a landmark in the northwest area of Seoul, the creation of a new Daehak-ro through the undergrounding of the Gyeongui Line railway, the rapid integrated planning for private redevelopment, and tailored support for redevelopment and reconstruction projects. I will do my best to ensure the smooth progress of these projects.”

Mayor Lee Seong-heon of Seodaemun-gu is reported to have closely coordinated with Seoul City regarding this Deputy Mayor appointment.

Mayor Lee said, “Since administration is carried out by people, the start, direction, and results of work vary depending on who and how it is done. I expect that the newly appointed Deputy Mayor and the existing capable staff will unite to swiftly advance key projects aimed at securing future growth engines for the region.”
