[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Soo-yeon] Han Sang-hyuk, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, stated in his New Year's address on the 2nd, "We will actively respond to new types of user damages and unfair practices by improving unreasonable systems so that large-scale digital platform operators fulfill their social responsibilities and protect user rights."


Chairman Han said, "The broadcasting and telecommunications media sector has undergone more changes than any other field, and the pace of change is accelerating," adding, "In the new year, we will do our best to achieve results that the public can feel based on our past efforts."


For this year's policy tasks, Chairman Han presented ▲strengthening telecommunications dispute mediation functions ▲protecting digital platform users' rights ▲improving media welfare blind spots ▲establishing integrated media legislation ▲innovating advertising regulations ▲supporting autonomous regulation systems for digital platforms ▲redefining the public responsibility of broadcasting ▲and enhancing the reliability and transparency of media platforms.


Chairman Han stated, "We will establish integrated media legislation encompassing existing media and new technology and new type media services such as OTT," and added, "We will support the autonomous regulation system of digital platforms and prepare necessary institutional measures to create a foundation for innovative growth."


With his term ending this year, Chairman Han said, "This year marks the conclusion of the 5th Korea Communications Commission and the launch of the 6th commission," and added, "While properly concluding the policies we have pursued so far, we will prepare new policies to realize 'a free and happy digital media world walking together with the people.'"
