[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] Im Sung-jae (photo) is widely expected to become a major champion.
On the 1st (local time), the Golf Channel named Im Sung-jae as a player likely to achieve his first victory in a major tournament on this year's PGA Tour.
The Golf Channel said, "Im Sung-jae played particularly well at last year's Masters," calling him "one of the most complete golfers in the world," and predicted that "he could be the Korean player to win a major tournament this year."
Along with Im Sung-jae, Viktor Hovland (Norway) was also selected. Ranked 10th in the world, Hovland has won three times on the PGA Tour and recently achieved back-to-back victories at the Hero World Challenge, a 'special event' hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation last month. Hovland's best major finish was a tie for 4th at last year's Open Championship.
Will Zalatoris (USA), the 2020/2021 Rookie of the Year, is also expected to claim a major title. Zalatoris has finished in the top 10 six times, including three runner-up finishes in major tournaments.
The Golf Channel recommended three promising players expected to secure their first win this year: Taylor Montgomery, Davis Riley, and Seis Sigala (all USA). Players projected to break into the top 50 in the world rankings include Thomas Detry (Belgium), Will Gordon, and Alex Smoly (both USA).
