Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, Skips New Year's Ceremony on the 2nd and Visits ‘Alleys’ for ‘Senior Care and Communication’
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 2nd, Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, skipped the New Year's ceremony and visited Jayang 4-dong to engage in ‘Alley Senior Care and Communication’ with residents.
Starting the new year by inspecting safety management for visitors to Achasan Sunrise, Mayor Kim continued his second activity of the new year not with a ceremony but with ‘Alley Senior Care and Communication,’ emphasizing ‘communication’ with residents.
‘Alley Senior Care and Communication’ began in November with Junggok 3-dong. Mayor Kim has continuously visited grassroots sites to listen to the stories of local seniors and vulnerable residents and actively reflect their opinions in policies through ‘alley communication.’ This visit to Jayang 4-dong was the fourth meeting with residents under the ‘Alley Senior Care and Communication’ initiative.
On this day, Mayor Kim spent a warm afternoon exchanging New Year's greetings with seniors at the 4th Senior Center in Jayang 4-dong and listening to their words of wisdom.
Mayor Kim said, “Please feel free to share any inconveniences or suggestions you seniors feel,” emphasizing his role as a ‘communication mediator’ by adding, “I will always strive to resolve them immediately.”
Next, Mayor Kim visited a single-parent family living in a semi-basement house in Jayang 4-dong. The father, a recipient of national basic livelihood security benefits for living and housing support, suffers from diabetic complications and is unable to work but supports his elementary school daughter.
Mayor Kim encouraged the father and daughter through extensive conversation and took time to personally check if anything was needed in their home. He especially urged them to take good care of their health. The accompanying visiting nurse also conducted health consultations by checking blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Mayor Kim stated, “We will strive to ensure that no family falls into welfare blind spots due to unnecessary procedures.”
Gwangjin-gu will continue the ‘Alley Communication’ initiative, a key project of the 8th local government administration, in 2023. Mayor Kim Kyung-ho plans to practice ▲cleaning ▲care ▲senior support ▲listening ▲volunteering in the alleys and reflect the direct communication with residents at the grassroots level into district administration.
