Over 3,000 Citizens Celebrate New Year's Wish Ceremony After 3 Years at Jinhaeru, Changwon

Hong Nampyo, Changwon Special Mayor, Welcomes the Year of the Rabbit with Citizens

The '2023 Year of the Rabbit New Year's Wish Ceremony for Citizens' event held at Jinhaeru in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, took the first vigorous step of 2023, the Year of the Water Rabbit (Gyemyo Year), by starting a sunrise event with citizens.

The '2023 Gyemyo Year New Year's Sunrise Citizen Wish Ceremony' held at Jinhaeru on this day was organized by the Yi Chungmugong Seon-yang Naval Port Festival Committee and was especially meaningful as it was held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19.

About 3,000 people, including Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, National Assembly member Idal-gon, Jinhae-gu district and city council members, heads of related organizations, local group leaders, and citizens gathered to welcome the new year and pray for their individual wishes.

In addition, Jinhae-gu, the jurisdictional district, established a close cooperative system with related organizations and self-governing groups to welcome the new year without a single safety accident, strengthening safety management measures against various accidents more than in previous years.

In particular, a safety fence about 600 meters long was installed on the seaside breakwater to prevent accidents such as falls or slips due to crowd congestion, and about 200 personnel from Jinhae Police Station, Changwon Fire Headquarters, Jinhae-gu Autonomous Crime Prevention Unit, and other self-governing groups were deployed to do their best in safety management on the day.

Mayor Hong said, “It was a more rewarding start than ever to be able to welcome the new year with citizens after three years, and I am even happier to have welcomed the new year safely without a single safety accident,” adding, “As we welcome the meaningful new year 2023, we will carry the flag of Changwonho and move toward ‘change and innovation’ to make this year ‘the year to complete the foundation for future innovative growth.’”
