Choi Ho-kwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, Visits Seonyugyo on January 1 Morning to Encourage Residents Volunteering for Safety Management

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, visited Seonyugyo, a popular sunrise viewing spot, on the morning of January 1 to encourage residents volunteering for safety management and exchanged words of goodwill.

Seonyugyo is a pedestrian overpass connecting Yangpyeong 2-dong in Yeongdeungpo District and Seonyudo Park, known as a sunrise viewing spot in the city. Many residents visit to see the sun rising close between the Yeouido buildings, but due to its arch-shaped structure, the slope is steep and the width narrow, raising concerns about accidents when crowds gather. Therefore, the district deployed staff and volunteers for safety management to ensure a safe sunrise viewing.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, said, “I would like to thank the residents who volunteered from dawn on the first day of the new year,” and added, “In 2023, as a representative of public interest, we will focus on protecting the lives and property of residents and prepare for the future to lay the foundation for Yeongdeungpo’s leap forward.”

Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo District, Seoul, Holds ‘2023 Year of the Black Rabbit Sunrise Event’

Gangseo District, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) successfully held a sunrise event at the summit of Gaehwasan on January 1, the first day of the 2023 Year of the Black Rabbit.

The event, held to pledge a hopeful start to the Year of the Black Rabbit and to pray for the health and happiness of 570,000 Gangseo residents, attracted about 3,000 local residents and others.

On this day, Mayor Kim Tae-woo and thousands of sunrise viewers shouted the countdown together to welcome the hopeful first year of the Year of the Black Rabbit.

Mayor Kim said, “I am even more grateful and honored to be with the beloved residents of Gangseo on this beautiful first day of the new year,” and added, “I wish health and happiness to all your families.”

He continued, “This year, the Year of the Black Rabbit, like a rabbit crouching and then leaping high, we will be able to take a step higher,” and pledged, “I will devote myself wholeheartedly for the residents of Gangseo.”

The sunrise event began joyfully with a lively street performance by the Gangseo Gugak Association. Various performances such as a powerful drum performance, Nanta performance, and vocal music concert were prepared to delight the eyes and ears of the sunrise viewers.

Various side events such as writing New Year wishes and family mottos and sending wish postcards added to the enjoyment.

In particular, since this was the first sunrise event in three years, the district paid close attention to preventing safety accidents due to the expected large crowd.

A day before the event, a pre-inspection was conducted with Gangseo Fire Station, Gangseo Police Station, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and Korea Gas Safety Corporation. Safety facilities were installed and safety personnel were deployed along the paths to the summit of Gaehwasan to maintain order among the sunrise viewers.

Dongdaemun District Holds New Year Sunrise Event at the Summit of Baebongsan Park in Jeonnong-dong on the First Day of 2023

Dongdaemun District (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) successfully held a New Year sunrise event at the summit of Baebongsan Park in Jeonnong-dong on the first day of 2023.

On this day, Baebongsan was crowded with residents who came to see the first sunrise of 2023 from around 7 a.m., before the main event began. Side events such as sharing rice cake soup and writing New Year wishes and words of goodwill started around 7 a.m., and various events for residents visiting the venue were held.

The main event began at 7:30 a.m. with an exciting group drum performance welcoming the New Year. Following the New Year’s bell ringing, greetings, and words of goodwill, a vocal team’s congratulatory performance filled the air with excitement about new hopes. The event concluded by watching the first sunrise of the New Year together.

In particular, to prevent safety accidents, about 110 safety personnel were deployed from the district office, Jeonnong 2-dong Community Service Center, Dongdaemun Police Station, and Dongdaemun Fire Station, ensuring the event was safely completed despite the large crowd through thorough prior prevention measures.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, said, “It is very moving to be able to watch the first sunrise of the year with residents at Baebongsan, which is our district’s pride. Receiving the energy of the black rabbit symbolizing prosperity and abundance, I hope 2023 will be a happy year for everyone. I will do my best this year to show the new Dongdaemun District I promised to the residents,” delivering New Year’s greetings to the residents.

At the ‘2023 Year of the Black Rabbit Seongbuk Sunrise Event’ held at Gaeunsan Playground on January 1, 2023, Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk District, is playing a drum to wish for a vigorous 2023 Year of the Black Rabbit.

About 1,500 citizens joined at Gaeunsan Playground that day to share hopes for the new year of the Year of the Black Rabbit.
