[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] CJ Logistics announced on the 30th that it has declared achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and has released the industry's first ‘Climate Change Response Report (CJ Logistics Net-Zero Report 2022)’ containing the company's goals and core strategies to respond to climate change.
Through the report, CJ Logistics declared its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and announced its mid- to long-term ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy to realize this goal. The report is available on the CJ Logistics website.
CJ Logistics plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37% from last year's levels by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. An analysis of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions revealed that, due to the nature of the logistics business, carbon emissions from transportation means such as freight vehicles and facilities like logistics centers account for approximately 52% and 48%, respectively, representing the largest shares.
The company plans to reduce carbon emissions from transportation by transitioning to eco-friendly vehicles and improving transportation efficiency. All vehicles owned by the company will be gradually replaced with eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen-powered cars. To enhance fuel efficiency, an optimal route transportation system will be established based on advanced TES logistics technology. Regarding logistics centers, since electricity consumption is the main cause of greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy sources such as solar power facilities will be introduced, and energy efficiency solutions will be applied to existing buildings.
Kim Heejun, head of ESG at CJ Logistics, said, “As awareness of the climate crisis intensifies, companies are also being recognized as key actors in response. As a global integrated logistics company, CJ Logistics will join the international community in achieving these goals and will continue to strive to transform into a carbon ZERO business by utilizing innovative logistics technologies.”
