Editor's NoteAsia Economy is conducting the '2023 Nationwide Brain Health Project' through the 'Harumanbo Harucheonja' campaign. Harumanbo Harucheonja is a movement encouraging people to walk 10,000 steps and write 1,000 characters daily to maintain a sharp brain in a healthy centenarian era. To support this, the Harumanbo Harucheonja newsletter provides subscribers with recommended walking courses and writing content. The Harumanbo Harucheonja campaign is the most cost-effective and wise exercise to protect yourself and your family.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chunhee] If you are curious about how to develop the habit of walking 10,000 steps and writing 1,000 characters every day, just subscribe to Asia Economy’s ‘Harumanbo Harucheonja’ newsletter.

Harumanbo is a movement to walk 10,000 steps (6?7 km, 1?2 hours) daily, whether on a fixed or unfixed course. Walking is the easiest and most affordable exercise with proven benefits, helping not only physical fitness but also brain health through meditation and reflection. We carefully select and deliver recommended walking courses from Asia Economy and various fields, ‘My Recommended Walking Course,’ and various walking-related information.

Harucheonja is an exercise of writing by hand on paper daily, copying classics, novels, world history, famous speeches, columns, and other reading materials. Writing 1,000 characters a day makes your brain smarter. Handwriting also helps prevent digital dementia. It is beneficial for all ages and genders, and practicing at least three times a week consistently can yield results. The newsletter also provides various content for transcription and handwriting lessons along with other useful information.

In the first issue of the ‘Harumanbo Harucheonja’ newsletter published on the 2nd, an interview with Dr. Oh Han-jin was featured, and Namsan was chosen as the first walking course of the new year. It is recommended to climb Namsan during lunch break or before and after work on the first working day of the new year to set your resolutions. Even without reaching the summit of Namsan, walking the trail around the mountain allows you to reflect on the past year and start anew with a fresh mindset for the new year. The ‘Harucheonja’ section included the poem ‘Garden’ by poet Kim Sang-yong, known for the line ‘I will open a window to the south.’ It also contained exercises and tips for losing stubborn winter fat that can be done both indoors and outdoors.
