The real Shiba Inu dog 'Kabos,' famous as the mascot of the virtual asset Dogecoin, is reported to be in critical condition.

The news about Kabos's poor health was shared by Atsuko Sato, Kabos's family member and owner, on her Instagram.

On the 26th, Atsuko wrote on Instagram, "Kabos is currently in critical condition." In the accompanying photo, Kabos is lying weakly on the floor. Atsuko said, "Since Christmas Eve, Kabos has had health problems and is unable to drink or eat."

Supportive comments wishing for Kabos's recovery poured in from her followers, and Billy Markus, co-founder of Dogecoin, also posted a tweet praying for Kabos's recovery.

On the morning of the 28th, Atsuko posted a new update stating, "The diagnosis revealed that Kabos has acute cholangiohepatitis and chronic lymphoma leukemia," adding, "Currently, liver enzyme levels are very poor, and jaundice symptoms are appearing."

However, she added, "Kabos is being treated with antibiotics, so there will definitely be improvement," and "His appetite has also returned."

Kabos was born on November 2, 2006, and recently celebrated his 17th birthday last month. The average lifespan of a Shiba Inu is 12 to 15 years.

This virtual asset is known to have been created as a joke by software developer Billy Markus in 2013.

It was made to satirize the Bitcoin craze, but surged in value after Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, mentioned Dogecoin multiple times on his Twitter.

According to the global cryptocurrency price tracking site CoinMarketCap, as of 9:55 PM on the 28th, Dogecoin's market capitalization stands at $9.7 billion (approximately 12.3 trillion KRW), ranking 8th in the coin market.
