Busan Advances as a Global Gourmet City... Hosts 'This Year's Food Culture Improvement Project Performance Conference' Status of Busan Excellent Certified Foods (16 companies, 43 items).

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will hold the ‘2022 Food Culture Improvement Project Performance Conference’ at 3 p.m. on the 27th in the city hall main conference room.

This performance conference is an occasion to share excellent cases of the food culture improvement project promoted throughout this year and to discuss next year’s policy direction for the city to leap forward as a global gourmet city. About 100 people, including officials in charge of work from 16 districts and counties of Busan City and hygiene organization officials such as the Busan branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association, will attend.

The event will be held under the theme ‘For the Leap of Global Gourmet City Busan’ and will proceed in the order of ▲pre-performance ▲awards for excellent institutions and commendations for meritorious persons ▲introduction of ’22 achievements and ’23 policies ▲gourmet events, presentations of excellent policy cases ▲expert gourmet special lecture.

In particular, ▲awards for excellent institutions and commendations for meritorious persons will include the city’s evaluation of the food culture improvement project work of 16 districts and counties to revitalize gourmet city Busan, and the ‘District and County Work Evaluation Excellent Institution Award,’ which selects and awards excellent institutions every year.

As a result of this year’s work evaluation, ▲‘Best’ was awarded to Yeonje-gu and Geumjeong-gu, and ▲‘Excellent’ was awarded to Suyeong-gu, Jung-gu, Sasang-gu, and Gangseo-gu respectively.

Yeonje-gu was selected as the ‘Best’ institution for promoting the ‘Story-based Old Restaurant Designation’ that discovers, selects, and supports old restaurants, and Geumjeong-gu was selected for excellent achievements in gourmet events and policy promotion that introduce the taste of Busan, such as hosting the 6th ‘La La La Festival’ to enjoy Geumjeong coffee, bread, and culture, and the ‘Geumjeong Premium Taste Brand Designation and Activation Support Project.’

Yeonje-gu and Geumjeong-gu, selected as the best institutions, will present excellent policies by district and share business achievements with participants on the day.

Mayor’s commendations will be awarded to those meritorious for the Busan International Food Expo and Marina Chef Challenge held in October and for certification of excellent Busan food products. The achievements of the ’22 Food Culture Improvement Project and major policies to be promoted next year, such as the Busan Food Festival, Busan Gourmet Content Production, and B-FOOD recipe development and distribution projects, will be introduced to the attendees.

The ‘B-FOOD Recipe Development and Distribution Project’ is a project that develops and distributes course meal recipes using Busan ingredients that reflect Busan’s characteristics. The developed course meal recipes are expected to be used as official Busan menus at future international events, attracting much public attention for next year’s project promotion.

A special lecture to enhance the job awareness of gourmet and food culture policy directions for district and county officials and hygiene organization officials attending the performance conference will also be prepared.

Park Sang-hyun, a food columnist who planned the Busan Food Film Festa program, will give a lecture under the theme ‘A City Remembered by Food, How Food Becomes a City’s Competitiveness.’

As a side event, an exhibition of products from 16 companies certified as excellent Busan food products will be held inside the conference hall. It will promote the safe Busan local food brand certified by the city and provide an opportunity for attendees to see and experience the ‘Taste of Busan’ firsthand.

Jo Bong-su, Director of the Citizen Health Bureau of Busan City, said, “This performance conference is not only a place to share excellent cases of food culture improvement projects promoted by each autonomous district but also a good opportunity to enhance the understanding and job awareness of employees and related persons regarding the revitalization of ‘Gourmet City, Busan.’ Busan City will continue to expand gourmet policy exchanges with world cities and promote various gourmet events to leap forward as a global gourmet city.”
