50,000 KRW Monthly Limit Per Person... Card Type Available from January 1,
Total 20 Billion KRW Scale, Expected to Revitalize Local Economy for Seol Holiday
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will start selling Yeosu Love Gift Certificates with a "10% special discount" for the Lunar New Year to revitalize the stagnant local economy.
The card type (Seomseom Yeosu Pay) will be available for discounted purchase from January 1 next year, and the paper type from January 13.
The total target amount for this Lunar New Year special discount is 20 billion KRW, with 8 billion KRW for the card type (Seomseom Yeosu Pay) and 12 billion KRW for the paper type. The special discount will end once the target amount is exhausted.
The monthly purchase limit per person is 500,000 KRW combining both card and paper types, and the discount is only available for cash payments. However, corporations will receive a 2% discount within the current monthly limit of 10 million KRW.
The card-type Yeosu Love Gift Certificate (Seomseom Yeosu Pay) is a rechargeable check card available to anyone aged 19 or older. It can be issued and recharged via the smartphone app ‘Local Gift Certificate chak’ and at 49 designated financial institutions (NongHyup, Saemaeul Geumgo, Gwangju Bank).
When using the card type at affiliated stores, the charged amount is used first. If the amount exceeds the charged balance or is used at non-affiliated stores or outside the jurisdiction, payment will be made from the linked check card account, not from the gift certificate balance, so users should be cautious.
The paper-type gift certificates can be purchased at 73 designated financial institutions.
Meanwhile, Yeosu Love Gift Certificates can be used at about 8,900 affiliated stores within Yeosu City, including restaurants, marts, gas stations, pharmacies, and traditional markets. However, usage is restricted in certain sectors such as gambling and entertainment establishments.
The status of affiliated stores can be checked on the Yeosu City website, the ‘Yeosu Gift Certificate Affiliated Store’ app, or via the QR code on the back of the gift certificate using a mobile phone.
A city official said, “To invigorate the local economy during the Lunar New Year holiday, we are starting the special sale of Yeosu gift certificates. We ask for active use as both local small business owners and consumers can benefit, and we also encourage active participation in registering affiliated stores.”
