Busan City Ranks First in Regional Regulatory Innovation Evaluation... Fruits of Regulatory Reform Busan City Hall.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City was selected as an excellent institution by ranking first among metropolitan local governments in the "New Government Local Regulation Innovation Promotion Performance Evaluation" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and received a special grant of 700 million KRW.

In the evaluation of basic local governments, Suyeong-gu and Haeundae-gu were selected as excellent institutions and each received a special grant of 300 million KRW, achieving the best performance among metropolitan local governments in Busan City.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated the efforts and achievements made for local regulation innovation since the launch of the new government through nine evaluation indicators targeting 243 local governments nationwide (17 metropolitan, 226 basic), selecting eight metropolitan local governments and 20 basic local governments (7 cities, 7 counties, 6 districts) as excellent institutions and providing special grants.

Busan City made efforts to revitalize the local economy and resolve citizen inconveniences by proposing improvements to regional issues through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety-local government joint local regulation innovation meeting, discovering and improving shadow and behavioral regulations that are difficult to improve, and actively working to solve regulatory difficulties faced by companies operating in the region, which received high evaluations.

Shadow and behavioral regulations refer to regulations that restrict actual rights or impose obligations despite not being laws or autonomous regulations.

This year, Busan City achieved results that improved citizens' quality of life by improving unreasonable regulations such as ▲ expanding the support target for small business loss compensation due to COVID-19 to resolve the accumulated losses of small and medium enterprises ▲ unifying the operation fact standard (vehicle age) for vehicle destruction recognition to minimize inconvenience in vehicle destruction recognition applications ▲ securing safe school routes through improvements to the drive-through system for children’s pick-up and drop-off vehicles along the industrial complex main roads.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, "Ranking first among metropolitan local governments in the new government local regulation innovation performance evaluation is a meaningful result that shows Busan City has played a leading role in region-led regulation innovation," and added, "We will continue to strive for regulation innovation that citizens can feel."
