Establishment of a Recruitment-Linked Contract Department for Integrated 5-Year Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programs

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Samsung Electronics announced on the 25th that it will establish an AI-specialized talent cultivation program by creating a recruitment-linked contract department called the 'Department of Intelligent Software' in collaboration with Sungkyunkwan University.
The Department of Intelligent Software will be operated as a 5-year integrated bachelor's and master's program within the College of Software Convergence at Sungkyunkwan University. The program aims to cultivate master's-level AI talents by providing undergraduate-level theoretical and practical education in AI and software fields for 3.5 years (7 semesters), followed by 1.5 years (3 semesters) of advanced master's-level education.
Sungkyunkwan University plans to select 50 new students annually starting in 2024 for the Department of Intelligent Software. Admitted students will be linked to employment at Samsung Electronics after graduation. During their studies, they will receive full tuition scholarships funded by industry-academia cooperation. They will also have various experiential opportunities such as participating in Samsung Electronics' internship programs, visiting Samsung Electronics' overseas research centers, and attending prestigious international conferences.
Samsung Electronics stated that it established the Department of Intelligent Software with Sungkyunkwan University to proactively nurture specialized personnel leading the AI field and to participate in national-level talent development. Park Hak-gyu, President and Head of Samsung Electronics' Management Support Office, said, "We will continue active industry-academia cooperation to contribute to the advancement of AI technology."

Additionally, through the Samsung Future Technology Development Program, it supports innovative AI research by domestic emerging researchers. Samsung also hosts the Samsung AI Forum annually, inviting world-renowned AI scholars and industry experts to share the latest research trends. Samsung Electronics plans to continue accelerating digital innovation across various fields and conducting AI research aimed at improving human life.
