Changwon Special City 'Child Meal Committee' ... Meal Support Unit Price Raised to 8,000 Won

Changwon Special City held the Child Meal Committee meeting for the second half of 2022 on the 23rd.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the ‘2022 Second Half Child Meal Committee’ on the 23rd, attended by the Office of Education, nutritionists, and the Joint Meal Support Center.

The Child Meal Committee, operated under the ‘Changwon City Child Meal Support Ordinance,’ deliberates on matters related to preventing meal deprivation and improving nutrition for children's health promotion. It consists of 10 members including the chairman.

At the meeting, the committee reviewed and decided on the agenda regarding whether to continue support for children currently receiving meals due to decisions made outside the meal support criteria at the 2021 second half Child Meal Committee, as well as the increase in the meal support unit price for 2023.

The increase in the meal support unit price was decided to raise the amount from 7,000 KRW to 8,000 KRW per meal, reflecting the inflation rate of major meal items used by meal-deprived children based on the Gyeongsangnam-do meal support unit price, and will be applied starting from the payment in January 2023.

The city supports meals for a total of 6,633 children, including 4,512 meal-deprived children and 2,121 children using local child centers. Children using local child centers receive meals at the centers, while general meal-deprived children use meal cards at 1,545 affiliated stores such as regular restaurants, marts, and convenience stores.

Kim Jong-pil, Director of the Welfare, Women, and Health Bureau, stated, “We will spare no effort to actively support growing children so that they can grow healthily without meal deprivation,” and added, “We will continue to strive to improve the child meal support project by continuously discovering meal-deprived children and expanding affiliated stores.”
