Yang Haeyoung, Chairman of Jinju City Council, Controversy Over Illegal Housing Extensions... "Future Rectification" Admits Illegality

Yang Haeyoung, Chairman of Jinju City Council, Controversy Over Illegal Housing Extensions... "Future Rectification" Admits Illegality Illegal extension violation building.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Yang Hye-hyung, chairman of the Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam, has sparked controversy after it was revealed that he illegally extended the building of a house he owns. Chairman Yang bowed his head, saying, "I was not aware of the illegal construction."

According to Jinju City on the 23rd, Chairman Yang is understood to have illegally extended and used a steel roof for rain protection on the rooftop of his house.

According to the Building Act, if the height of a newly installed roof exceeds a certain level, it is considered an extension. In such cases, one must report to or obtain permission from the relevant local government, and depending on the scale, submit documents such as design drawings and structural safety inspection reports.

However, it has been reported that about 180㎡ of the rooftop roof of the building owned by Chairman Yang, located on Sinpyeonggongwon-gil, Jinju City, covering a 1st-floor neighborhood living facility of 144.98㎡ and a 2nd-floor house of 144.98㎡, did not follow these procedures. The ownership registration of this house was made under Chairman Yang around 2003.

The parking lot of the building has also caused controversy as it is said to have been changed to other facilities such as a deck.

Regarding this, Chairman Yang said, "I was not aware of the illegal construction," and added, "It seems to have occurred while repairing the house, but I will correct any violations of related laws through future rectification."

A city official stated, "After investigating the facts, we plan to issue a correction order soon to take appropriate measures such as demolishing the illegal extension according to relevant laws and administrative procedures. If the correction order is not complied with voluntarily, we will impose a penalty for non-compliance."
